Using a search engine locate a website that talks about the history of the computer. Read the site and write a 150 word summary of the information in that site. Also include if you think that the site gives you reliable information and if you would recommend someone doing research on computers to
use this site. In your response first provide the URL for that site, then your summary. For your reply to other students pick 2 students that have different sites and read their sites and then give one interesting fact that you learned from that site. Also tell them if you agree or disagree with their opinion on the site being reliable and why. The first comment under this post will be an example of a response, you CANNOT use the same website or reply to my Example. Discussion Question Introduction. This week is the start of 18 different DQ's that you will be asked to write using proper writing skills. The requirements will be discussed in class and you CAN fail this class because of not completing DQ so make them a priority.
Week one - "Who are you?" What are your future plans, dreams, fears, expectations for the school year, preferred learning methods, favorite subjects and interests. What do you think it takes to be successful in this class? How can I help you be successful? How can I make this classroom experience better? Remember to write using complete sentences, spell check, grammar check and proofread your work. On September 11 we should take a moment to reflect on a major United States tragedy, for some this will be a day they lost everything and for others a day they realized everything. All though you were to young to remember this was a day that needs to be remembered and taught about in the history of
our country. In the blog for this week I want you to reflect on what you know about that day and what your parents remember about that day. Then reflect on what the day has done for the USA and your family, have things changed from 2001 to 2013? Finally, reflect on what you think about this day and its personal significances to you or others. I want honesty but respect for others feelings as well. Your initial response should be 200 words. I am not requiring a peer response this week, but if you read another students post and feel there is something you want to post in a reflection for that student you can earn extra credit points for your reflections. You have survived one semester of 9th grade.
This weeks DQ is asking you to reflect on your first semester. Don't just focus on your failure but your success as well. Include extra curricular activities, classes, and sports. You do not need to reply to any other students - this DQ will only be worth 10 points for the response. These will remain private and only I will be able to read them. The Sandy Hook Elementary Tragedy is something that has affected me in many ways because of having a kindergarten child, but also being a teacher.
The topic can be hard to address and cause people to become emotional, but as a student you need to be aware of the issue as it may have an affect on you in the future. What do you think of when you hear the word success? What do you want to be successful at in your life? How many of you feel that you are successful in your role as a student? Why or why not? Pick one successful person that you know and list the qualities that you think have made them successful. When a student prepares a report for a teacher they are expected to proofread their work, in the business world this is also expected. What do you think an employeer or a customer would think of someone who doesn't proofread their work?
What are some tips you have for others to help make proofreading and editing your work easier. You must also respond to at least one other student's comment. Putting Off Procrastination- read the article.
On the seven skills listed rated yourself between 1-5 with 5 being the best and 1 worst. Then state how you intend to improve those skills. Then search the web for an article regarding procrastination or time management for high school students. Summarize your article in 3-5 sentences and provide the link to the article. Finally - you will be given two students names in class on Tuesday, tell them how they can improve on one of their procrastination skills listed in the article. Remember constructive criticism is not intended to hurt, but instead to help. If you are rude in your post it will be deleted and zero given for this weeks DQ. Your post should include why or why not you think that suggestion work for you. **** Some of you need to watch your spelling and punctuation in your blogs - double check you have capitalized I before you post. Go the following website "FIVE HABITS OF A CRITICAL THINKER" (click on the link). Read the article. Identify the skill you think is the most important. Then reflect on the list of five in regards to your own thinking. Do you practice critical thinking? Do you think that there should be other habits on this list of 5? Which trait do you think is the hardest to do? Which trait do you think is the easiest to do? Why? Give some real thought and reflection.
Then read other students reflections and respond to one that you agree with and one you disagree with and explain why you agree/disagree with them. Search the Internet for a scholastic article discussing the opportunities and challenges around technology use by adolescents. Create a link to your article. Then summarize your article for everyone. After your summary explain your personal opinion about technology use in school and home, and the opportunities it provides you along with the challenges that are faced.
Respond to two other students about their article first (after you have read it) and then their personal opinion regarding technology. It is good to disagree, but remember what we say can be misunderstood on the Internet, so pick your words carefully. |
